Through time I have found that a single 'bit' of knowledge is not enough. For someone to say, "I know how to sharpen a knife," for example, is not enough for me. I want to know what kind of metal it is, what the action of the stone REALLY is, what impact metal tempering has on the longevity of the sharpness, and more. Why a stone is better for some knives than a honing rod. I even want to know where the metal came from and how it was made.
I take the same approach with writing vows -- as a writer, I love research anyway. I like to know more about the people themselves. I want to know your 'backstory'. How you met, what kind of music you like, something silly, something serious, something about your family history, ethnicity, bloodline, or anything along those lines that can add to the color and beauty of your unique story.
I love to dig into different kinds of poetry, readings, and quotes trying to find the one, single, perfect, bit to add for your vows that make you smile, make tears of joy threaten someone's makeup, and make the hearts of those gathered together for your special day, breathe a deep sigh and realize they now know so very much more about you, your life, your story, and your love... so much more than they did before.
This is a quote of mine from years ago. I was asked how I loved someone. My answer...
"You are not the mountain for my ego to climb. You are the journey for my soul."
I would love to help you find the perfect quote for your love.
